600 x 450mm Block Paving Recessed Manhole Cover 5 Tonne

Description

This block paving recessed manhole cover is designed to allow paving materials to be installed within the lid so the finished surface remains level and consistent. It is typically used over inspection chambers in patios and paved areas where a visible cover would interrupt the layout.

The 5 tonne load rating makes it suitable for pedestrian areas and light duty domestic use. It can be used in driveway settings with very light traffic, but is not intended for regular vehicle loading.

The shallow 43.5mm tray depth is suited to thinner slabs, flags or screed finishes. This is important where overall build-up is limited, such as internal floors or shallow external installations. Using a deeper tray in these situations can result in weak infill or incorrect finished levels.

The cover combines a galvanised steel tray with a polypropylene frame, providing structural strength while reducing overall weight. It is non-sealed and intended for external or non-sensitive internal environments.

Key Features

  • 5 tonne load rating suitable for pedestrian areas and light duty applications
  • 43.5mm tray depth suits thin paving, slabs and screed finishes
  • Recessed lid allows paving to continue without visible interruption
  • Galvanised steel tray provides structural strength
  • Polypropylene frame reduces weight and improves corrosion resistance
  • Frame transfers load into surrounding structure, not through the infill
  • Integral lifting keys allow safe removal for access
  • Suitable for patios, walkways and light use driveway areas

Material Composition

The cover uses a galvanised steel tray for strength combined with a polypropylene frame (Grade AP9) for reduced weight and corrosion resistance. This combination is suited to general construction environments where handling and durability are both considerations.

Is a 5 tonne cover suitable for a driveway?

Only for very light, occasional vehicle use. For regular driveway traffic, a 10 tonne cover is more appropriate.

What type of paving suits a 43.5mm tray depth?

Thin slabs, flags or screed finishes. It is not suitable for standard deeper block paving builds.

Can this be used indoors?

Yes, in non-sealed applications such as utility areas. It should not be used where odour or water sealing is required.

Does the infill material carry any load?

No. The load is carried by the frame and transferred into the surrounding structure. The infill is only for the surface finish.

Why choose a polypropylene frame?

It reduces overall weight and improves resistance to corrosion compared to a fully steel unit.
