Sealed and locking manhole covers are solid top access covers designed for installations where a standard plain seated cover does not provide sufficient control. These covers incorporate sealing gaskets and mechanical locking systems to secure the lid to the frame and help restrict odours, surface water and debris.

Unlike recessed covers, solid top sealed covers have a flat, visible lid that does not accept infill materials. The lid sits within the frame and is fixed in place using locking screws or similar mechanisms, providing a more secure installation compared to non locking alternatives.

These covers are commonly used in internal environments such as basements, plant rooms, service corridors and tiled floors where odours from the drainage system must be contained. They are also used externally in patios, service yards and access areas where additional protection against water ingress or unauthorised access is required.

Sealed solid top covers are typically manufactured from galvanised steel or similar materials, with integrated seals designed to sit between the lid and frame. This creates a tighter interface compared to plain seated covers, helping improve performance in controlled environments.

Selection depends on the clear opening of the chamber, the required load rating and the level of sealing or security needed for the installation. Where standard covers are not suitable, sealed and locking variants provide a more controlled access solution.
