Build-In Step Iron for Manhole Chambers

Build-In Step Iron for Manhole Chambers

Description

The Build-In Step Iron for Manhole Chambers is designed to be built into chamber walls during construction, creating a permanent foothold for pedestrian access into inspection chambers, drainage systems and underground utility structures.

Manufactured from galvanised ductile iron, these steps provide a strong and durable access solution with corrosion protection for long service life in below-ground environments. The treaded anti-slip step surface helps improve grip when entering or exiting chambers in damp conditions.

These chamber step irons are commonly specified for new inspection chamber builds, utility chambers, service pits and drainage access structures where safe ladder-style entry points are required. They are intended for pedestrian access use only.

Two sizes are available to suit different wall thicknesses and embedment requirements. The 115mm option is typically used where a shorter tail length is suitable, while the 230mm option allows deeper build-in fixing into thicker chamber walls or masonry construction.

Designed, manufactured and tested to EN13101:2002, these steps provide a recognised specification standard for access chamber components. Always install during chamber construction using suitable spacing, alignment and structural support. These products are not intended for retrofit bolt-on use.

What is a build-in step iron used for?

It provides a permanent foothold built into chamber walls, allowing safer pedestrian access into inspection chambers and below-ground structures.

Can these be fitted after the chamber is built?

These are designed to be built in during construction. They are not intended as bolt-on retrofit steps.

Which size should I choose?

Choose based on wall thickness and the required embedment depth. The 230mm option is suited to deeper build-in fixing.

Are these suitable for vehicle loading areas?

They are for pedestrian access only. Load ratings relate to user access, not traffic loading.

Are they resistant to corrosion?

Yes. They are galvanised for long service life in damp underground environments.
