Stainless steel manhole covers are recessed access covers manufactured from corrosion resistant steel for installations exposed to moisture, cleaning chemicals or harsh environmental conditions. They are typically specified where galvanised steel covers may deteriorate over time.

Like other recessed access covers, these products feature a tray within the lid that allows the surrounding surface material to be installed inside the cover. Tiles, stone or paving can be set within the tray so the inspection chamber access remains flush with the finished surface.

Stainless steel covers are commonly used in internal environments such as commercial kitchens, plant rooms, utility areas and wet rooms where regular washing or chemical exposure is expected. They are also used externally in locations where corrosion risk is higher, including coastal areas or installations subject to frequent cleaning.

In drainage systems exposed to chlorinated water, such as pool surrounds, stainless steel is typically specified as galvanised materials can corrode in these conditions. Using stainless steel helps maintain long term performance and reduces the risk of premature failure.

Selection depends on the clear opening required for chamber access, the depth needed to suit the floor or paving build-up and the installation environment. Stainless steel recessed covers are generally chosen where durability and resistance to corrosion are key requirements.
