Block Paving Recessed Manhole Covers

Block paving manhole covers are recessed access covers designed to allow paving materials to be installed within the lid of the cover. The recessed tray is filled with block paving or slabs so the access point sits level with the surrounding surface and does not interrupt the paving layout.

These covers are widely used in patios, driveways and landscaped areas where a consistent surface finish is required. Once installed, the cover blends into the paving pattern while still allowing access to the inspection chamber below for maintenance and inspection.

In most domestic drainage systems, the chamber below is an inspection chamber rather than a full manhole. For this reason, these products are often referred to as block paving access covers or inspection chamber covers. The function remains the same, providing reliable access while maintaining the finished surface.

Correct installation is key to performance. The tray depth must suit the thickness of the paving and bedding layer so the finished surface remains flush. Loads from foot traffic or vehicles should be transferred through the frame into the surrounding structure rather than the infill material.

Selecting the correct cover depends on the clear opening required for access, the depth needed to suit the paving build-up and the loading expected in the installation area.
